A Family Legacy in the Septic Business: Tyndall Septic Systems

Nearly 55 years ago, Pat Tyndall Sr. started his own septic company at just 20 years old. Now, at 75, he works alongside his son, Pat Tyndall Jr., and grandson, Jack, continuing the family legacy in Brewster, New York.

Septic tank maintenance isn't glamorous, but it's vital — especially in the Hudson Valley, where 50% of residents rely on septic systems. Pat Jr. recalls starting his day with an empty truck, pumping septic tanks, and repeating the process. Despite the nature of the work, he finds it easier than other cleaning tasks.

The job isn't without surprises. Over the years, they've encountered unusual items like toys, money and jewelry in the tanks. Recruiting new employees is challenging, as few are eager to work in this field. However, with the increasing number of city transplants to the Hudson Valley, demand for septic services is rising.

Pat Jr. hopes the business doesn't continue to the next generation, wishing his children pursue less demanding careers. Despite the hard work, Tyndall Septic Systems remains committed to serving Putnam, Dutchess and Westchester counties with pumping, installations and repairs.
